Have LARPD focus more on in-city parks

By Alex Dourov

Candidate for Director; Livermore Area Recreation and Park District

This information is provided by the candidate
Most people use recreational areas within the city limits. Most people do NOT use the park trails. LARPD needs to focus its attention on what the people want and use.
The LARPD "Park and Recreation Planning Survey, taken by The Center for Community Opinion in March 2002, revealed that 81.1% of residents use the parks once a week (22.9%) or more than once a week / every day (29.9%) or once a month (28.3%). Only 7.4% said they never use the parks.

That survey also revealed that most people do not use the park trails. The survey showed that 68.3% use the trails (presumably more rural areas) only once a month (30.8%), once a year (16.1%) or never (21.4%).

The busy residents of Livermore need and want parks close to them - they do not always have time to go to the outlying recreational areas. They want, and deserve in-city parks with restrooms, drinking fountains and better night lighting. According to the survey, residents want to "hang out", relax and take their children to the local parks.

On November 5, 2002 VOTE Alex Dourov for LARPD Board of Directors to help LARPD focus its efforts on the in-city parks.
