Restrooms in the local parks

By Alex Dourov

Candidate for Director; Livermore Area Recreation and Park District

This information is provided by the candidate
A recent LARPD survey indicated that many people want restrooms in the local parks, yet LARPD states that restrooms are contrary to their philosophy.
According to the LARPD "Park and Recreation Planning Survey, taken by The Center for Community Opinion in March 2002, respondents clearly communicated their desire for restrooms in the parks: "Very large numbers sited (sic) public restrooms as facilities that these parks need."

Yet, the official stance of LARPD is: "Our District philosophy is that neighborhood parks are for their neighborhood. Restrooms would encourage use by persons from farther away. Also, restrooms are extremely expensive to develop and maintain."

Restrooms are relatively inexpensive to build, and will not have a significant impact on LARPD's capital projects budget. Special districts (like LARPD) are formed to "provide the public service that the public wants." I will work to ensure that the public wishes are respected.

On November 5, 2002 VOTE Alex Dourov for LARPD Board of Directors as the voice of the people.
