Issues

By James "Jimmer" Cassiol

Candidate for Democratic Party County Central Committee; County of San Francisco; Assembly District 13

This information is provided by the candidate
issues of concern.
Homelessness:

 We need solutions, not just to throw more money at the problem

 SF has been spending an increasing amount of money each year on homeless programs, and the only result has been an increase in homelessness!

 We need all sides, particularly the paid advocacy to stop obstructing those who want to try new approaches

 The Coalition on Homelessness (COH) only introduces shrillness to the debate, and obstructs innovative new ideas, suggestions or programs. COH needs to increase and perpetuate the homeless problem to justify their own existence.

Housing and Home Ownership:

 SF has built only about 1,000 units per year for the last 10 years, and the need for housing is three times that!

 22 years of increasingly restrictive rent control, combined with a hostile environment for construction of new housing, has reduced effective housing supply relative to demand, and thereby driven up prices

 SF voters have already chosen to retain Tenancy-In-Common (TIC) as a way to accomplish affordable homeownership. We should increase, rather than limit, homeownership options!

 The HOPE (Home Ownership Participation for Everyone) proposal should be adopted as soon as possible, to enable tenants to achieve the economic security of homeownership and freedom from eviction fear. Lets try a win-win idea!

 The best form of eviction protection is homeownership!

Accountability and Results from Governments and non-profits:

 Government and NPO's are spending our tax dollars and are not held accountable for that money. We need to ask:

 How much are they spending?

 What are they spending it on?

 What results are they getting for it?

 Are we getting value for money?

 We must open up the blinds and let the sun shine on NPO's
