Business/Employment Opportunities

By Karen Smith

Candidate for Supervisor; County of El Dorado; District 4

This information is provided by the candidate
Where has all the business gone? El Dorado County has a reputation of not being business friendly. Why?
We need to find ways to improve the business climate in our county. We should explore building a fast track system that will allow new or expanding businesses to turn the first shovel of dirt in weeks or months, not years. It is unfortunate that many businesses that would like to locate in our county pass us by because of the perception of turmoil. This perception must be dealt with using a strong campaign that focuses on our positive attributes.

Along with jobs we need to provide affordable housing for our working population. Not only is this good business it is also a state mandate that a certain percentage of new home starts must be low to moderate income homes.

There are those who would like El Dorado County's economy to have nothing but a tourist based economy, but when the State of California, or beyond, suffers an economic downturn then tourism is the first thing to suffer. We need other businesses to fall back on.
