Candidate for
Commissioner; Saratoga Fire Protection District

Joe Long's family has lived in Saratoga for generations, priding itself on its public safety services to Saratogans.

Joe's grandfather, Harless Moser, established a family realty business (Harless Moser Agency) across the street from the Saratoga Fire Station in 1906. Joe's father, Joe Long Sr., later established Moser & Long. Long Sr.'s first priority, however, was always public safety; he volunteered as an on-call firefighter for a dozen years before serving as a Saratoga Fire Commissioner for 25 years.

Today, Joe seeks to continue to the family tradition of fire safety and public service to Saratogans.

A life-long resident of Saratoga, Joe is currently a Saratoga Fire Lieutenant and has dedicated 31 years of service in his current role as an on-call Saratoga Firefighter. He was selected as Firefighter of the Year in 1986 and is a member of the California State Firefighters Association and the Santa Clara County Peace Officers Association.

When elected, Joe's priorities will include: Ensuring that the Saratoga Fire District maintains the highest level of emergency service and rapid response; advocating local control and responsiveness to local needs; and providiing experienced leadership to ensure fiscal accountability and results.

A Charter member of the Saratoga Public Safety Commission, Joe helped to establish the Commission and served as its first Chairman. While a member of the Commission, Joe initiated early efforts to improve safety services by better coordinating efforts with other public safety departments, the Sheriff's Department, and the Saratoga City Council.

Joe is a graduate of Saratoga public schools and holds an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement from West Valley College. He is also a former Santa Clara County Deputy Sheriff and former Chief of Police for the West Valley-Mission Community College District. His wife, Susan, also works for the Saratoga Fire District.
