BETTER PLANNING

By Rick Richard

Candidate for Council member; City of San Diego

This information is provided by the candidate
More Research and investigation into the costs and potential problems when entering into a major project
Before any project is presented to the Public for a vote, the city MUST have done all its homework and researched the TOTAL COSTS and possible future complications EXAMPLE: The present BALL PARK issue was very poorly planned. No allowance was made for modifications or mandatory changes. The funding was not completely established before starting the project. Now the City is faced with trying to arrive at a solution for raising funds. The city must provide a clean package before asking the public for a vote. FUTURE PLANNING Our city is always searching for ways to increase funds for the city treasury. For the past several years the city has made numerous attempts to terminate the 99 year lease on the property located in the center of Mission Bay currently used as a Mobile Home Park. If the City is successful in breaking this lease, the property could be converted into an RV park. This would also offer an opportunity to employ more city employees. The underground utilities are already installed and since San Diego is noted as a tourist attraction this would be an ideal area for the tourist to stay at a nominal fee. The city has tried several times to make the land available to developers to build Hotels. We do not need more Hi Rise hotels to obstruct the views of our beautiful bay. An RV Park can raise as much , if not more money than the hotel tax would provide. This would also eliminate some of the heavy RV traffic already gathering in the bay parking area adjacent to Highway 5.
