OPPOSITION TO BROWN FIELD EXPANSION

By Mayda C. Winter

OPPOSITION TO BROWN FIELD EXPANSION - Essential to prevent the devastating effects this ill-conceived plan would have on our quality-of-life.
I am adamantly opposed to the Brown Field Expansion plan. The proposed expansion would have devastating effects on our community. Noise intrusion in our homes, schools and workplaces would cause constant interruptions, severely impacting our lives and our children's education. A new San Ysidro school, currently slated for construction to relieve crowding at Mar Vista High School, would not be built because of the severe impacts caused by the flight path. Even our basic right to feel safe in our own homes would be challenged, as the proposed head to head take-offs and landings are deemed dangerous and unacceptable. The promise of temporary construction work and airport operation and maintenance jobs cannot compete with the greater number of good paying, permanent jobs that would be created through development of the same area as a hub for corporate, research and high-tech companies. I am committed to improving our quality-of-life and this ill-conceived plan should just "not fly".
