This is Reggie -


In 1957, after high school graduation in Lima, Ohio, Reggie went on active duty in the U. S. Marine Corps from the reserve system. Upon transfer to Camp Pendleton in April 1958, he determined Oceanside to be his "Town of Choice".


During his 12 1/2 in the Marines, he served as an Infantryman, Motor Vehicle Operator, Classified Material Control Clerk, Company Chief Clerk, Battalion Substance Abuse Counselor and Battalion Administrative Chief. Having served in the Philippines, Okinawa, Hawaii and Vietnam, in addition to stateside, Reggie participated in 7 major combat operations and earned the Vietnamese Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon and was recommended for the Navy Commendation Medal upon completion of duty in Vietnam.


After military service, Reggie was employed at the Veterans Administration Regional Office, Los Angeles, where he performed duties as a Veterans Benefits Counselor; Chairman of the Station EEO Committee. As such he was commended for "being largely responsible for the successful organization of the Equal Employment Opportunity Committee and for the beginning development of the sub committees in Womens' Affairs, Spanish-Speaking, Pacific Islander, American Indian, Upward Mobility and Fair Housing and Transportation Assistance. He was supportive of all aspects of the equal employment opportunity program and did much within the regional office and in the community to lend deserved dignity to the program and its endeavors. His selfless contribution was in the highest tradition of the service."; Member of the Director's Advisory Task Force specializing in Supervisor Training and Employee Education, for which he was commended "for his exceedingly fine efforts and assistance in initiating, planning coordinating and finalizing the excellent VA Career Development Certificate Program for our employees with West Los Angeles College."; 1st Vice President of the Board of Directors, Wilshire West Federal Credit Union; Vice President, Station Youth Advisory Committee; President and Founding Member of the Trendsetters Toastmistress Club, Toastmistress Clubs International; Financial Analyst; Adjudicator; Area Supervisor for the VetReps on Campus Program for which he was commended, "The awardee's proficient performance of assigned duties contributed to a vitally important program that is now rendering invaluable service to thousands of student-veterans throughout Southern California. The awardee's dedicated and conscientious efforts in helping to achieve the objectives of this program are deeply appreciated."; and finally, as a Counselling Unit Supervisor. During this period while full-time employed, Reggie pursued a full-time education in the disciplines of Real Estate, Business Administration and Management and Public Administration thru attendance at West Lost Angeles College, Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, California State University, Dominguez Hills and more recently, RISE Institute.


In 1980, after over 21 years of federal service, Reggie resigned to open his own Business Consulting and Services company. In 1984, in order to enhance the growth of his then young family, he relocated them and his business back to Oceanside, his then "City of Choice".


Last July, Reggie and his wife Jennifer celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. They have three adult children, all of which graduated from Oceanside High School. Their first-born, Kecia J. Sanders-Buche, after having served 4 years in the U. S. Army, a combat veteran of Operation Desert Storm, is married. She and husband David both attend Mira Costa College. Both being full-time honors students, she is President of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. Regina, the second-born, also attends Mira Costa. She is majoring in business in preparation for the upcoming opening of her own childcare facility. Son Stephen recently placed his college education at Mira Costa on hold while opting for a tour with the U. S. Air Force. Jennifer, a disabled homemaker, is the Glue that holds the team together. Reggie,Jr. was lost at age 2 months. The family has additionally fostered/sheltered 42 others, housed 12 Japanese and 1 English Exchange students and Reggie has been Teacher/Tour Guide to 7 Japanese exchange groups.


Reggie's former experiences include service as Editor of the chapter newsletter and Secretary of the Koolauloa Jaycees in Hawaii; 1st Vice President and State Director, Oceanside Jaycees; President, School-Community Council and Black Education Commissioner of the Los Angeles Unified School District, for which service he received in excess of 60 commendations, certificates and awards from Federal, County and local officials; He was an Associate of Future Teachers of America; Member, Community and Governmental Affairs Committee, newsletter columnist and member of the Education Committee of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce; 2-term President of the Involved Men of Oceanside, Inc.(Incorporating them during his term; and Co-Chairman of the Community and Business Leadership Council of Oceanside.


Currently, Reggie is President, Oceanside Merchants Association; Member, Ad Hoc Committee, Downtown "D" District; Member, Cable Communications Needs Assessment Task Force; 2nd term Chairman, Oceanside Freedom Days Celebration Committee; 2nd-term Chairman, Redevelopment Design Review Committee; 2nd term Vice Chairman, Redevelopment Advisory Committee; President/Founder, RISE Institute; Pastor/Director/Founder, Link of Love International Ministries; Board Member, Humanitarians United for Giving (HUG) and a Member, Oceanside Chamber of Commerce.

YES, He is ready to be your full-time Mayor. Let's face it, the guy needs a break. (smile)
