Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Reggie Sullivan

Candidate for
Mayor; City of Oceanside

This information is provided by the candidate

Not being a politician, I offer my "mayoral" philosophy in lieu of a "political" philosophy. It is as follows:

It is my goal, with your help, to succeed in making Oceanside "America's City of Choice". Agreed, it is a staggering task but one I am willing to undertake. In order to accomplish this, I have a plan called "LEAP". An acronym for Leadership, Efficiency, Action and Progress, it is the simple framework needed to positively move this city ahead on a planned and motivated path causing a giant leap into the 21st century.

LEADERSHIP is being proactive; Having a plan that is alive and flexible, not stagnant, one-faceted and waiting for the goose to lay a "golden egg". The office of mayor is honorable and must be dignified by its occupant. As a tactful, honest and diplomatic ambassador, I will return this office to its position of high esteem. I will endeavor to establish a non-personal, non-politically driven city council that is unified by COMMUNITY concerns. A council that embraces respect, consideration and courtesy as the bedrock of its character. My VISION for the city includes bringing out the best of each citizen. It is especially inclusive of youth, seniors, the physically/mentally challenged and the all-american FAMILY. It includes advancing wholesome moral values as a part of leadership. it includes concern for and encouragement to all. My vision concerning health, safety and welfare also includes the need and requirement for cultural and arts expansion, entertainment and conferencing facilities, sufficient libraries, parks and recreational facilities and a theme park that will be unique to Oceanside.

EFFICIENCY is getting the greatest output for the least input. I'm not speaking in terms of "laziness", but rather, getting the "biggest bang for your buck"; therefore, requiring less "bucks". I will strive to simplify the rules and ordinances, stabilize them and give them an opportunity to bring about the desired results. I will establish a Government Efficiency Commission that is completely autonomous, to give periodic "report cards". I will encourage staff to reduce the acceptance of projects with resolutions that require excessive variances. Projects should meet the established requirements; otherwise, what is the need for rules and ordinances. I will stop the practice of trying to "fit the square peg into the round hole".

ACTION, simply put, is getting things done. I will act to reduce or eliminate utility, service and parking fees wherever possible. I will act to prevent our plans from becomming mired in red tape and indicision. I will be environmentally concerned and actively participate in enhancing our future legacy. I will give meaning and understanding to the term "business friendly". I will move to establish an entity that will have the concerns of our small businesses in mind; being able to assist in start-ups, maintaining and expansion of small businesses. To aggresively partner with educational facilities and other government entities in support of our small businesses. I will aggressively support all programs designed to help our seniors, our collective basket of wisdom, in making their lives as easy and active as possible. Further, my support of the needs of mobile home residents will continue.

PROGRESS, philosophically speaking, is the desired results realized thru the unification of citizens, education, business, commerce, industry, technology and government into a team action that benefits this community.

Please, LEAP on board the 21st century team and elect . . .

REGGIE SULLIVAN as Mayor of Oceanside. Be a part of its growing and exciting future.
