ED GALLO FOR CITY COUNCIL, `ESCONDIDO FIRST', BIO

Ed Gallo was born, raised and educated in New Jersey. In 1964 he enlisted in the US Army where he spent three years serving at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina in the XVIII Airborne Corps, 1st Corp Headquarters at Camp Red Cloud, Ijongbu, Korea and finally at Ft. Bliss Texas Reception Station. His MOS was in the area of Personnel Management and in Korea worked in G2, US Army Intelligence. In just two years he attained the rank of E-5 and was awarded `Expert' Rifleman and National Defense Service Medals and with his honorable discharge, the Good Conduct Medal.

During his military time he attended North Carolina State University and Texas Western University (now UTEP) earning credits along with those earned at Rutgers University towards an Associate Degree in Business Management. During his tour of duty in Korea, he was a member of a GI theater group, The Bullseye Masquers, where he had the opportunity to perform in `Teahouse of the August Moon' and the `Cain Mutiny Court Marshall', which the troupe also taped for broadcast on Armed Forces TV. His final effort was stage manager for `Bell, Book and Candle'. While at Ft. Bragg he was a member of a league championship volleyball team and at Ft. Bliss played on the Division winning flag football team.

At Ft. Bliss he met his wife of 33 years then moved back to New Jersey where he was employed as a store manager with the same company he had left. He and Brenda had three children before moving to Escondido in 1973. Terri, Debbie and Mark all graduated from Escondido schools and the Gallo family now includes 4 granddaughters. Amanda, Nicole,Mia and the latest arrival Chloe are his pride and joy. In Escondido he managed the local Mayfair Market. During his nine total years in retail management he was recognized by both companies for turning no and low profit stores into more profitable units.

Since coming to the beautiful Hidden Valle Ed has been involved in many civic activities and has served on a number of city Commissions and civic committees. His favorite civic activity is the annual Escondido Jaycees Christmas Parade having been chairman or co-chairman 4 times during his 26 year involvement. He is a past President and is the only Escondido member to ever be presented the US Jaycees Ambassador Award, their highest honor. For the past 24 years he has been an active real estate agent working as an independent agent handling residential, land and commercial sales and leasing. The two offices where has worked have recognized him with outstanding salesman awards. His service on the Downtown Revitalization Committee, Chairman of the Transportation Commission and current vice-chair of the Planning Commission along with his business, real estate and management backgrounds gives him the unique position of being most qualified to serve the City of Escondido through the Council. "When my grandchildren grow to adulthood I want them to want to live, work and raise their families in Escondido". He is committed to the economic prosperity and safety of Escondido which will ensure high quality of life standards for all residents and make ESCONDIDO FIRST!
