Development of a Town Center

By Chuck Walker

Candidate for Member of City Council; City of Scotts Valley

This information is provided by the candidate
Development of the Skypark commercial area is finally becoming a reality. We now have a town center project on the table.
The development of the Skypark commerical area has been in the works for a long time. We have a great opportunity to develop a unique retail center that will establish an identity for Scotts Valley that no other community within the county of Santa Cruz currently has.

After a several hour long think tank "chirette", where nearly 80 residents gathered to offer their ideas of what kind of retail area they would find favorable, we have an excellent plan for going forward with this project. The developer is very happy and positive about the project too.

The overall project includes many elements which make the retail shopping experience a delight while catering to the various demographic needs of the residents. The project will be integrated into existing, adjacent shopping areas and also incorporates the nearby recreational elements.

I will strongly supporting this effort by helping to establish the needed infrastructure for this project through grant funding and other revenue sources without any cost to the taxpayers. This project is vital to the long-term sustainability of our community services. Plus, it makes Scotts Valley a prime destination of choice for various interests.

This will be my number one effort as a Councilmember.
