Statement by James C. Cavuoto

First of all, let me say thank you for taking the time to research political campaigns on the Internet, and thank you to the League of Women Voters for sponsoring this innovative site. I believe that the Internet can play an important role in educating voters about government, and also in leveling the playing field with better-financed campaigns.

Campaign finance is an important issue in our country. Like John McCain and Bill Bradley, I have pledged not to accept soft money in this campaign. We have also adopted a unique campaign strategy, called CAMPAIGN reFUNDS, that seeks to redirect some of the money that otherwise would be spent on political advertising to public schools. If voters agree to read my campaign messages over the Internet, rather than via costly political mailers, I will donate the cost savings, $5 per qualified household, to the public high school of your choice. To participate, visit my web site, http://www.cavuoto2000.com. (Voters without access to the Internet can participate by calling our campaign hotline at (310) 320-9495.)

You can find a good deal more information about my campaign and important issues facing this district at the web site. I also encourage you to watch the recent candidates forum sponsored by the South Bay Area Chambers of Commerce, which will be shown on your local cable television public access channel in the weeks ahead, and to attend the upcoming LWV candidate forum. Please feel free to contact me at jcavuoto@cavuoto2000.com if you have any questions or comments.
