Jeff Bosshard is the ideal candidate to serve as Judge of the Santa Cruz County Superior Court. He has more than thirty years of legal experience -- as legal aid attorney, public defender, business lawyer, civil litigator, divorce and probate attorney, and a dozen years as Judge Pro Tem.

Jeff was born and raised in Los Angeles County. He attended public schools, then went to Stanford University on a full tuition scholarship -- winning the national Stanford-Sylvania math competition. At Stanford he took Computer Science courses, then went to work on the Apollo Program while studying for Master in Business Administration and Juris Doctor degrees at UCLA.

After a stint as an anti-poverty lawyer at Legal Aid offices in Southern California, he moved to Santa Cruz County in 1973 and opened his own office in Felton. There he was soon elected President of the Business Association, serving for 2 years. He later served as Director of the San Lorenzo Valley Chamber of Commerce, as well. He was elected President of the Santa Cruz County Bar Association in 1986, having also served as Program Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary. In his year as President he brought about a 50 percent increase in membership, largely by encouraging older attorneys to join or rejoin the organization.

Jeff has also served the community as trustee of the YWCA building fund, President and Board Chairman of his church, and Kiwanis Club member. He is a Board Member (and bulletin editor) of Santa Cruz Host Lions Club, and Past Master of the Santa Cruz-San Lorenzo Valley Masonic Lodge. Recently he became a member of the Ambassador Committee of the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce. A lifelong music lover, he was a member of the national champion Los Angeles Police Boys Band, and recently appeared on the Cabrillo Stage in the Santa Cruz Bay City Opera production of "Carmen". He also helps produce and perform in the Bar Association's annual meeting dinner entertainment.

Jeff cares about the law. He became involved in his professional association to make a difference, and improve its public image. He has worked in behalf of qualified candidates for judgeships to get them elected or appointed -- including most of the current incumbents. He not only knows what it takes to make a good judge -- competence, fairness, and temperament -- but possesses these important qualifications as well. More importantly, he has a stake in the success of the courts and will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that all of its elements work together in harmony. Having never worked for a public agency, he has the necessary independence to help make the system work.

More importantly, he cares about people. He has dedicated 30 years of his professional career to helping individuals who cannot afford the services of large law firms. He will work to ensure that all who appear in court are treated courteously and fairly, fully understand their rights, and are accountable for their actions -- Justice....for all!
