Nancy Pyle's Vision for District 10

We pay more in taxes and receive fewer services than any Council District. As a member of the City Council, my entire focus will be directed toward providing the best services for neighborhoods in District 10. In order to be effective, accountable and have measurable progress, Nancy will form a Citizens' Advisory Board, which will build a four year plan so we know where we are now and where we want to be in four years. Each year's evaluation would be an indicator of success.

Take a hard look at Land Use before the valley is completely built up

  • Protect South Almaden Valley Urban Reserve
  • Expand senior and community center facilities
  • Maximize land use capabilities in urban areas by reusing underutilized existing commercial properties
  • Redefine San Jose City population growth goals currently in the 2020 plan
  • Review policies that determine height for buildings
  • Promote affordable housing options for seniors and young families
  • Protect the existing city ordinances with the Mobile Home Communities

Involve citizens in implementing Traffic Relief

  • Define and publicize the problems and seek solutions
  • Create more incentives to ride light rail, bus and/or Commuter rail
  • Increase frequency of trains, light rail and buses during peak times
  • Promote a BART link
  • Construction of the 85/87 interchange by Caltrans will not be completed until late spring of 2003 provided there are no delays. We must begin now to find solutions to the expanded traffic on Almaden Expressway and Blossom Hill Road

Our young people are our future. Nancy Pyle will work to

  • Expand child care services
  • Increase crossing guards at schools
  • Bring youth counseling services to Blossom Valley

Nancy Pyle's focus on Health and Safety includes

  • Increasing the number of police officers in District 10
  • Cooperating with the police to address speeding problems on our neighborhood streets
  • Addressing air and water quality issues on a regional basis
  • Helping domestic abuse victims in District 10 linking with San Jose's Family Violence Center

Nancy Pyle wants to Simplify City Government.

  • Simplify the permit and inspection process for new building and home remodeling projects
  • Allow permits on-line
  • Provide wide band data communications between departments allowing for greater efficiency
  • Provide department contact names and numbers on the City web page
  • Increase information regarding loans available to small businesses

Regularly provide Effective Communications with constituents

  • Nancy Pyle will provide monthly updates to all constituents on the Council District 10 web page with hard copies to our libraries

Mayor Gonzales and seven council members have endorsed Nancy Pyle. She will work with the council for the betterment of District 10.
