Senior Housing, Teen Center, access road to Crocker, Community Swimming Pool, Community garden, Park Focal Point, and picnic areas, Bayshore Storm drainage project.
I am proud to be a member of this City Council. We have accomplished much over the past four years, and our financial picture is sound. We recognized that with escalating costs affordable housing is an important need for our lower income seniors. After three years of hard work with an advisory committee of local seniors ( I was the Council's liaison) the result is the Visitacion Garden Apartments. Our teenagers needed a place of their own, amd so we built the Teen Center. the Center has recreational facilities, as well as a room equipped with computers for study and a place for private consultation. For many years Crocker Industrial Park was isolated from our community. We were able to construct the Park Lane extension, which made Crocker part of our comunity and greatly eased access to it. With the new Community Swimming Pool under construction we are about to realize a dream that the community had for forty years. The pool will be open in time for next summer. We replaced the old tennis court there with a brand new one, and improved the ball field at the same time. The Community Garden is a great success. We have continued to improve the community park by poviding more picnic areas and building the restroms and Focal Point structure. After years of planning the Bayshore Storm drainage project is about to start. the project will eliminate the flooding of Bayshore near Industrial Way during the rainy season. Our Marina is in dire need of repairs and dredging. This upgrading has begun and will be completed next year. We plan to start the replacement of the Tunnel Avenue Bridge next year. the new bridge will be eartquake safe, and will have bicycle lanes and sidewalks. The developer of the Ridge is completing construction of a facility for the performing arts. Next to the performance center will be a multi-purpose athletic field. We are exploring the possibility of building a gym.
