Why did I decide to run for the Burlingame School District Board of Education?

By Michael D. Barber

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Burlingame Elementary School District

This information is provided by the candidate
As a Certified Public Accountant and a resident with historical ties to the community, I wish to help maintain and improve the quality of our schools.
  • Given the recent financial turmoil in the Burlingame School district I felt the School District could use an accountant (CPA) as an inside "internal auditor".
  • My wife, Gretchen Barber (nee Bosschart), and I have a long-term interest in the community and the Burlingame schools, because we have decided to make this our permanent home.
  • We bought our house in Burlingame because of the small town feel of the community and the quality of the school district. We would like to ensure the schools maintain the high standards they are so well known for in San Mateo County.
  • We have a family history in the area. My mother-in-law attended McKinley Elementary. My mother and father-in-law attended Burlingame High School. Gretchen and her brothers all attended public schools in San Mateo. My siblings and I attended public schools in Marin County.
  • As stated in my candidate statement, I wish to serve my community in the best way I can.
