Why should I be elected to the Burlingame School District Board of Education?

By Michael D. Barber

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Burlingame Elementary School District

This information is provided by the candidate
I believe my accounting and leadership skills, along with my commitment to serving my community are what it takes to keep our schools at their current high level of academic excellence.
  • The School Board could use an accountant to keep an eye on the financial situation of the District.
  • I served as an artillery officer in the Army in several leadership and staff positions, including Platoon leader and Intelligence officer.
  • I have served on the San Mateo County Transportation Authority Citizens Advisory Committee for over a year and a half.
  • As noted already, Gretchen and I have a long-term interest in the Burlingame Schools, and therefore I will take a long-term view of the direction the School District takes both financially and academically.
  • I will come into the position with an open mind. I hope to contribute a non-biased approach to the current issues facing the Board. I will not favor one school over another.
  • The School Board and the community at large could use a fresh face in the mix.
