QUALITY AFFORDABLE HOUSING

By Dennis A. Olsen

Candidate for Council Member; City of Union City

This information is provided by the candidate
Improve our mix of quality affordable housing.
In recent years, Union City's housing landscape has changed dramatically. We have seen an increase in the number of subdivisions targeted towards the upscale buyer. It is time to address that segment of our community that cannot afford a $500,000 home.

Quality affordable housing can be done. Through creative and innovative use of our remaining land, home ownership can be realized by an increased number of our residents. I propose building a community within a community by the Bart station. We would accomplish this by building individual businesses on the ground level and condominium type flats above them. By using the land for more than one purpose, the cost of acquisition would be driven down thereby making the property more affordable.

Transportation and shopping would be made more accessible due to the proximity of the development. A win win for all!
