DECOTO & THE POLICE DEPARTMENT

By Dennis A. Olsen

Candidate for Council Member; City of Union City

This information is provided by the candidate
Restore harmony between Decoto and the police department.
In past years, it seems the people of Decoto and the police department have developed a somewhat adversarial relationship. A mending of this perception is long overdue.

I propose that the police department institute monthly get-togethers with the teens and residents of Decoto. Oakland has developed a successful program whereby the police meet in a parking lot with the residents at the same time each week. The attendees sit on the hood of the police cars and talk frankly with police officers about their feelings regarding the police department.

By sharing thoughts and feelings openly, both sides come to a greater understanding of each others positions. This is a first step towards increased harmony.
