MAYORAL CANDIDACY FILING DATE: March 8, 1999.
What are the campaign issues as you perceive them? Based on my experience with the media thus far, I do not expect the TENNESSEAN or others to delve into my viewpoints with enthusiasm. However, I am willing to wast a little more time expressing myself for the sake of influencing a potential few in leadership roles.
COMMUNITY UNITY. If your political and media leaders would make a concerted effort to treat all segment of our community with equal respect and attention, life in Nashville would be better. When I use the phrase "cultural transformation," I'm simply implying that we should "treat others as we want to be treated." We need to be more tolerant of differences, and more willing to appreciate the diversity we share.
Obviously, certain individuals and certain neighborhoods have been neglected in our zeal to compete in the international economic marketplace. We have some serious catching up to do!
