Modernization of School Sites

By George St.Clair

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Campbell Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate
The need for modernization of CUHSD school sites is discussed. Passage of a local school bond will be needed to solve this problem.
The Need(s): (1) The re-opening of Brahnam and Blackford as comprehensive high schools due to a growing student population and possible unification by neighboring school district(s); (2) the modernization of all school sites which are averaging over 30 years in age in order to meet the changing curriculum, ADA (Disability Act) requirements; (3) replace outdated heating and ventilation systems; and (4) renovate play fields, outdoor courts, and football bowls.

The Solution(s): Careful maintainence of our schools has meant that the CUHSD has not had to place a school bond before the voters since our schools were built over 35 years ago. We can no longer postpone major renovations that will adequately house our students--and enable our teachers to prepare them for the new millenium. Because we have successfully maintained a balanced budget necessary to qualify for state school construction funds, dollars raised from a local bond issue will go even further.

In recent elections voters in our partner elementary districts have supported local school bonds. They recognize the needs and have supported their schools. I am confident that the voters will also support modernization of their high schools. I shall continue to work toward this end.
