As your Trustee for the past four years, I believe that I have provided the vision, leadership and the hard work to lay a foundation which has helped this district toward our goal: All Students Can Learn..All Students Can Succeed.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you as your Board of Education reprsentative for Trustee Area #4. Because of the trust and support that you have given me, we can be proud of the numerous accomplishments that have taken place in our district, during the past four years. Accomplishments:
  • Approving the first three-year contract with the San Jose Unified Teachers
  • Approving a management audit that identified $5 million in savings
  • Reinstatement of the six period day in all Middle & High Schools
  • Working to promote return to neighborhood schools
  • Promoting school safety through "zero" tolerence policies
  • Establishing guidelines for school uniform selections
  • Implementing 20:1 Class Size Reduction for grades K - 3
  • Received $1,200,000 grant to purchase nine new 84 passenger natural gas school buses
  • Adopted Lifelong Learning Standards For San Jose Unified Graduates
  • Developed content standards in Language Arts, Math & Science
  • Increased Graduation Requirements for all students
  • Implemented early literacy training for K-3 teachers to ensure all children exit third grade reading well
  • Opened one of the few public Montessori Schools in Northern California
  • Adopted a three year Technology Plan for the district
  • Adopted a Strtegic Plan for the district that establishes priorities in: Student Achievement Diversity Community Involvement Professional Development Quality Management Facilities & Safety
  • Established a plan to reopen Canoas School with funding from the developer
  • Prepared three schools sites for the constructin of 29 new permanent two story classrooms and additional bathrooms
  • Approved lighting retrofits for all schools
  • Approved upgrades to all swimmimg pools
  • Approved airconditioning upgrades in several schools

As your Board representative, I have provided the leadership to promote teamwork. I successfully lead this district, as Baord President, to winning a $165,000,000 bond measure, with a 75% approval, which will rennovate and modernize our schools. I have helped to develope a Board approved Bidget Advisory Committee, as well as a Bond Oversight Committee. I am dedicated to putting children first and I am also committed to encourage community involvement, as well as business and city support, to insure that our students have the best education that they all deserve. I am asking for your continued support, so that I may continue to serve the students of our district.
