Why are you running for Office of Assessor?

By Jeff Scott Reid

Candidate for Assessor

This information is provided by the candidate
Jeff summarizes why he is running for Assessor, and why you should agree with leading taxfighters and vote for him.

What prompted you to run for office?

"While assisting clients with the assessment appeals process I discovered how seriously behind the process was. I also became aware that we had passed up on $28 million (AB818) that the OC taxpayers had generated, yet was being used by other counties. The only way to begin the process of change appeared to challenge the administration. I was encouraged to seek the office by real estate professionals, clients and appealing taxpayers. No-one was willing to seriously challenge the Assessor, so I stepped up to bat."

Why should people vote for you?

Perhaps being a business owner is the best reason. We must operate efficiently, treat clients with the utmost respect, explore and pursue all potential opportunities, and work together as a team. Without those principles my real estate operations would not have been such a success throughout the real estate recession of the 1990's. The county needs to work in such a manner, and is on the right track, provided the Assessor's office changes it's attitude.

"I have a thorough working knowledge of the Assessor's operations. During 1997, I extensively studied the successful operations and each department of the LA Assessor. Orange County needs to elect a candidate from outside the current management, with a working knowledge of the office and the ability to work with other branches of the County and city governments."

Jeff Scott Reid is the only candidate that brings a well rounded approach. Additionally, Jeff Scott Reid was the only candidate willing to seriously challenge the incumbent and an ill running office. The other candidates joined the bandwagon after the challenge of fighting the incumbent was safely in the past.

If Jeff runs the Assessor's office with only half the effort he has put forth into this election, we will have an renewed branch of county government running at peak efficiency.

LA Assessor Kenneth Hahn has stated: "Jeff has clearly prioritized the necessary steps to turn the Orange County Assessor's office around." and "Jeff Scott Reid is my choice for the position. Jeff does possess the necessary background to reflect the needs of all residents in the County of Orange."

California Taxpayers Association past President, John Jay Curtis stated: "No other candidate for Assessor matches the integrity and knowledge of Jeff Scott Reid. It's time Orange County brought in the outside expertise needed to straighten out the bureaucratic Assessor's office."

Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association

"We believe Jeff will make an excellent representative for taxpayers and look forward to working with him in the years ahead" The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association defends and protects taxpayers, Proposition 13 and various tax related issues helping to maintain taxpayer rights. Jeff is concerned about individuals, especially seniors, once again becoming taxed out of their homes.
