Ethical Leadership and Responsible Government

By Charel Winston

Candidate for United States Representative; District 16

This information is provided by the candidate
The immediate cause of all the mischief of misrule is, that the men and women acting as the representatives of the people have a private and sinister interest, producing a constant sacrifice of the interest of the people. William Leggett
One of my main concerns is that of ethical Leadership: Public service should be about citizen leaders helping others--not politicians helping themselves. Any process or action that does not serve the public and only benefits the officeholder and their contributors is not ethical leadership.

Similarly, I believe in responsible government: Individual liberty, personal responsibility, limited and efficient government, enforced check-and-balance accountability, balanced budgets, and putting the interests of "we the people" first is tantamount to good government. For the past 12 years, government bureaucracy has grown to the largest size it has ever been, the debt has ballooned by trillions of dollars, gas prices are soaring, the number of Americans without health insurance is staggering, and our children are being left to deal with a crippling, over-spending economy and disparaging consequences to their health, their environment, and their future.
