Smart Voter was honored by being named a Laureate by the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, California in 2003. The Tech Museum Awards are given for technological innovations benefiting humanity.

Tony Ridder, CEO and Chairman of the board of Knight Ridder, presented Smart Voter Director Trudell Een with the Tech Museum Laureate Award on October 15, 2003. Smart Voter was one of five finalists for the "Equality" Award.
