Questions & Answers

1. Do you support joint committees to reconcile differences between bills on the same issue passed by both houses of the legislature?*

The establishment of joint committees was a central issue to my original campaign for the Assembly. These committees have been extraordinarily successful in solving and ending the previous budget delays. We are now changing the legislative process so that more bills are reconciled in this way. The only way a bill will pass in Albany is with the vote of both houses.

2. What methods would you support to ensure equity in funding public education?*

re are two issues to be addressed. One is thee reclamation and rehabilitation of the New York City School System. The second is whether the present method for funding education should be changed to state-wide funding. As a means for adequate funding, I would support and sponsor an income tax surcharge which charged more to the wealthiest members of our state.

3. If Indian Point nuclear power facility licenses are not renewed, how do you propose to ensure adequate electric power for the region?*

Indian Point and other power plant facilities (Bowline and Lovett) can be reconfigured with the highest level of advanced technology to produce more energy at a lower cost with a reduced environmental impact. As an Assemblyman, I have been contacted by individuals who want to negotiate with Mirant to change the plants into state-of-the-art facilities. This alternative should be pursued by the County Executive and all responsible officials in Rockland County.
