WHAT I BELIEVE....

As a reasonably well educated, rational, involved human being, I have given some considerable thought to a definition of my political "philosophy."

The immediate conclusion, firmly reinforced after due consideration, is a little bit complex...and certainly incapable of being type-cast.

Initially, I must declare that I believe firmly in the admonishment of Mohandas K. Gandhi: "You must, first, be the change you would see in the world." In those words, I hear echoed my mother's own insistence that we are responsible to take the actions necessary to create the conditions we desire to experience in this life.

I am something of a voracious reader and have long studied Philosophy and History. From that journey, I developed an overall belief in the sanctity of the family, the necessity for order, the basic decency of most people, and the benefits of sound personal money management.

All of this has been united with an early and undeniable foundation of belief in GOD, defense of community and nation, and confidence in my abilities (tempered by a painfully acquired respect for my limitations).

The results are these:

  • I will, and have, supported and defended this land against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

  • I respect every man's "inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

  • I am fiscally conservative, for the most part, yet do not hesitate to spend fully for those things which are most beneficial.

  • I do not long countenance bullies, dictators, nor fools in positions of authority over other people's lives.

  • I am neither Democrat nor Republican...but American.

  • Any man, or woman, who wishes to belittle, diminish, under- value, intimidate, attack, slander or libel the rights or worth of "Everyman" can expect difficulties from me.

  • Service to GOD, country, community, family are a part of the very fiber of my existence...and I believe service to one is service to them all.

  • There is no greater honor bestowed upon a citizen, then the summons of his/her neighbors to represent them with honesty, integrity, dedication and zeal.

  • No society will long prosper which fails to fully serve the need of its citizens for education and training.

  • The "working man" is the backbone of this nation, and the politician who ill serves him will sooner or later get a very nasty surprise...and a pink slip.

  • "Ethnic politics," and "hidden agendas" from power-seeking /power-loving "special interest" groups contain the seeds of their own destruction!

  • The salvation of these United States of America will ultimately lie in our abilities to celebrate one another's differences, honor one another's opinions, and join in making our communities a better place to live in...for e v e r y o n e!

  • In the field of Education, the student is not only the first priority, but the only priority. Everything else must be measured against the simple questions: "How well will this serve to enhance the education of our students? Is this the best possible action that can be taken, at this time, to serve the education needs of the students?"

  • REAL LEADERS are not ashamed or hesistant to stand up and be counted when there are hard decisions to make and hard work to be done!

While the items listed may not, strictly speaking, fit your definition of "Political Philosophy"...I challenge the reader to find a good political leader whose personal philosophy differs radically from mine.
