As with life I think it's most important to strive for balance between the economy and social services. In business there is a concept called "flow" that is achieved when employees face the right amount of challenge and feedback to keep them engaged and optimally producing. This concept can apply to city management such that the right amount of public safety keeps the level of crime and danger in check, and balanced spending on infrastructure meets immediate needs and maintains long term reinforcement.

We are experiencing rapid growth thanks to a healthy job market and desirable school districts and our circulation is slowing like blood through hardened arteries. Renters are being pushed out with rising costs to more affordable areas while young Tech professionals flow in and out of our city for work then retreat to their more sophisticated urban dwellings. In order to maintain this type of workforce and level of commerce while minimizing environmental impact, we have got to improve mobility by increasing and optimizing transit options. These are large challenges that require regional collaboration to increase cost effective housing inventory, and fill in the missing links in Bart and east west solutions.

The status quo isn't fielding our needs and resources are limited, so it is time for hybrid solutions like live/work space where conference rooms double for lunch and dinner and special need communities evolve as one in the Netherlands customized for patients with Alzheimer's. We have to stop legislating and start facilitating public private partnerships and economical transit rate options that cut down on stress and vehicle dependancy.
