When one hears of able bodily men and women retiring in their late 40's and 50's on 80%-90% of their base salary it makes one start to think about what their own retirement plan offers. With the exception of upper management of major corporations, no one receives such a generous retirement plan.

At some point agencies in PERS must take a hard look and ask themselves if they can afford to continue to spend the current amount of money on such a lavish retirement. Broadmoor Police Department pays 100% of the of the PERS retirement plan.

Another area is medical. In past years many agencies paid 100% for the employee's medical plan. Now days the employee is fortunate if the agency contributes 50%. Broadmoor Police Department pays 100% of the employee's medical plan.

The Broadmoor Police Department needs to look closely into changing the amount the agency contributes to both the retirement plan and medical.
