My immediate goals and issue priorities for the city include prudent fiscal management, building a strong relationship with our schools, developing a strategy for our community center and other infrastructure needs, encouraging diverse and vibrant commerce, and thoughtfully implementing the downtown plan to increase parking and provide open space, with a purposeful eye toward redevelopment and new development of housing and commercial property.

The issues in this election include the following:

  • Deferred infrastructure needs around the community center and various other City owned buildings/parks/open-spaces
  • Need for more parking in the downtown area
  • Consideration of new housing development that fits the charm of Burlingame and while understanding the impact on neighbors, schools, traffic and local business
  • Need to encourage diverse, local commerce to maintain our strong financial position
  • Citizens desire to have a productive, community oriented conversation around shared school facilities with both San Mateo Union High School District and the Burlingame School District

My recent work on the Community Advisory Committee highlighted the need for prudent investment in our local infrastructure and I think this is one major point that uniquely shapes my candidacy. In addition, my extensive 25 year career working in finance with city agencies, county entities, and labor union clients distinguishes me from the other candidates. I have also lived in Burlingame for 18 years and served in various volunteer capacities including co-leading the first major school bond initiative in 2006 and then a school parcel tax in 2009 both of which have invigorated our city and schools with over $100 million in new facility funding. This has created jobs, fortified our schools and made Burlingame an amazing place to live. I also have a very strong goal of cooperative community engagement to provide solutions for community benefit.
