VICKY SANTANA--DELIVERING FOR THE COMMUNITY

For the past four years, Ms. Santana has served our community as the Rio Hondo College Trustee and has fought for and delivered the following:
--Maintaining a balanced budget and fiscal responsibility of "Measure A" bond program and ensuring our tax dollars are spent wisely.
--Helping to start innovative programs like the Pathway to Law School to assist in transferring Rio Hondo Students to a top undergraduate university and then attend partnering law school
--Construction of a State-of-the-Art Learning Center/Library and Student Center
--Approval of construction for the NEW Rio Hondo College Pico Rivera Education Center, a satellite campus in the City of Pico Rivera, located across from El Rancho High School. Construction to begin early 2016
--Establishment of the First-Year Success Center to support recent high school graduates to transition to college life

RIO HONDO COLLEGE-PICO RIVERA EDUCATIONAL CENTER: The Rio Hondo College-Pico Rivera satellite campus was not part of the original voter-approved bond scope. Vicky fought tirelessly to ensure that the satellite campus would become a reality. She worked with her colleagues, the College campus community and the El Rancho School District to make this a reality. And now the Pico Rivera community--adults, current students and high school students--will be better served educationally by the college. Access to higher education will be available to all who want it, now at our door step.

The Rio Hondo College-Pico Rivera Education Center will be located at the former adult school site and is ideally located across the street from the El Rancho High School. Rio Hondo will invest $1.3 million to upgrade seven buildings, spanning 6,720 square feet, to create a thriving college campus and integrate 21st century learning tools into six classrooms and an office. The Educational Center is expected to open in the Fall 2016.

"We will transform a closed facility into a thriving educational facility, (while making it) convenient for students who are juggling multiple responsibilities to maintain their educational goals despite challenges with time or transportation."
--Vicky Santana, Rio Hondo College Vice President of the Board of Trustees
