Candidate for
Governing Board Member; El Monte City School District

I am a Board Member for the El Monte City School District and a mother of four.

I love our community and know how important a quality education is for our children. I am part of a family that has been in El Monte for more than 35 years and involved with education and education policies for more than 40 years. I know that strong schools lead to strong communities and a strong future.

As a former full-time EMCSD teacher and now full-time parent in the district, I know first-hand the impact our decisions have on our teachers and students in the classroom. I am proud of the hard-working parents, teachers and administrators I have had the pleasure of working with. I know that smart decisions can make a huge difference for our schools and our students.

As a Board Member, I have supported:

--Hiring new teachers and reducing class sizes
--Assisting teachers with training and new instructional materials
--Keeping students healthy and safe
--Targeting funding to improve student achievement
--Providing students with 21st Century skills and technology
--Constructing new facilities and upgrading existing ones
--Expanding music and arts programs in our schools

I enjoy serving on this Board because I have been able to make a difference for our students. I want to continue to make sure all students have the best we can give.

I received my Bachelors Degree from UC Santa Cruz, Masters Degree from the University of Chicago, and teaching credential from CSU Los Angeles. Prior to teaching in EMCSD, I was a speechwriter for the Governor of California and interned in the White House, so I understand the process of governing and the politics of education.

I also understand school districts work best when the board members listen to the community -- when the board, the teachers, the administration, and the parents work collaboratively on behalf of our students.

I have a deep respect for our community and a personal commitment to the quality of our schools. As we continue to implement the Common Core Curriculum, as well as our new state funding and testing systems, I will make sure our Board decisions set a strong foundation for education in this district for generations to come.
