Why Diana for Azusa?

I believe everyone deserves a chance to fulfill the "American Dream". This means decent public services, safe working conditions, fair wages and benefits, and an opportunity for a good education with training programs that provide for a brighter future.

With over 12 years of labor experience and in partnership with the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, I will work diligently to provide training and options in the various trades of electrical, solar installation, construction, plumbing, heating and air, etc. The employment opportunities are there for our youth and constituents seeking better jobs. There is an expectation that within the next five years, baby boomers such as myself will retire and jobs will be plentiful. However, this may not happen without adequate training and education. If we fail to provide these opportunities, there will be a gap within the work force. This insight is invaluable to the stability of the working class in Azusa. The more job opportunities available, the more dollars spent in our City.

My 28 years of experience within a municipal agency has provided me with hands-on experience to understand the bureaucracy within government agencies. I have spoken with local business owners about their experience with our City Hall. Due to this, I feel streamlined procedures will benefit new and existing business ventures. I look forward to learning and understanding the current operations of City Hall. We must use a "think outside the box" mentality and share ideas that will move Azusa forward in technology as well as seek potential revenue and resources to preserve existing jobs and maintain existing service levels. Azusa is a great city rich in culture and history that must be preserved. We must see what is ahead, know where we are, and know where we have been in order to move forward.

My experience as Program Manager of the City of Los Angeles, Public Works High School Internship Program, afforded me with an opportunity to create public-private partnerships with local business, public agencies, and the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. This program was recognized for innovation by the American Public Works Association. In Azusa, we have the opportunity to enhance operations by partnering with businesses who can hire and mentor high school students and place them within their company or within Azusa City Hall. The benefits are tremendous and provide opportunities to those who are not familiar with the many career options available. I have the passion, the know-how, and the hands-on experience to make this happen.

This program is a rewarding opportunity for both students and families. It's a benefit for all Azusa. It is also a way for the City of Azusa and the Azusa Unified School District (AUSD) to bridge the gap that currently exists between the two entities. We are a City with tremendous resources. As a Member of Azusa City Council, I will work closely with the Members of the AUSD Board of Education to ensure all Azusans are provided with opportunities to pursue an excellent education with the support and backing of Azusa City Council.
