Candidate for
Council Member; City of Huntington Park

Rosa has been a resident of Hunting Park since the summer of 1971 (43years).

Rosa graduated from Huntington Park High School in 1973, East Los Angeles Community College in 2002 and in 2006 she received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Public Administration from California State University Dominguez Hills.

Her mother, Mrs. De La Cruz, instilled in her family strong work ethics and a love for this country, which has given them better opportunities. Mrs. De La Cruz encouraged all of her children to become United States Citizens. Following her mother's advice, Rosa petitioned her citizenship and in 1975 she became a Naturalized US Citizen.

In 1978 she married Raul R. Perez. they were blessed with 2 sons, Raul and Ryan.

It was through her husband that Rosa learned the importance of community involvement and volunteerism. He taught her that all people are significant and deserve the utmost attention and care. Because of her husband's involvement, she also became involved in the YMCA and assisted with the yearly fundraising campaign. She volunteered with the Jaycees and became the Charter President of the Jaycee Women's Club, an auxiliary to the Jaycees. Rosa joined the Huntington Park Junior Women's Club and in 1984 she received the Citizen of the Year Award from the San Gabriel Valley Region.

Rosa's husband was elected to the Huntington Park City Council in 1990 and her knowledge of public office flourished. In 1991 her husband became the Mayor of the city; making him the First Hispanic Mayor of Huntington Park.

Her husband lost the battle to cancer on October 26, 1996 while on the city Council.

Rosa formed the non-profit organization Families Fighting Against Cancer, as a resource to Relay for Life and to provide service to families affected with Cancer. She is a member of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network; the non-profit non-partisan advocacy partner of the American Cancer Society and has held many positions in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Southeast Cities. In memory of her late husband, Rosa and her family established the Honorable Mayor Raul R. Perez Memorial Scholarship Fund; a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to graduating seniors of Los Angeles Unified School District high schools in Huntington Park. The Organization has provided over 12 scholarships including lop tops.

She supports with time and money the Southeast Churches Service Center; a non-profit organization that provides food and other resources to over 3,000 needy families monthly, as well as other not for profit organization.

Rosa, graduated with honors from the California State University Dominguez Hills with a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Public Administration: Administrative Management. She has been employed by Los Angeles County for the last 40 years. She currently works for the LAC+USC Medical Center as an Assistant Hospital Administrator.

Rosa has served her community with honesty, integrity and fortitude; was elected as Huntington Park's City Treasurer in 1997; becoming the First Hispanic elected City Treasure in the City's history. She served as Health and Education Commissioner, as well as Planning Commissioner. She was elected to the Huntington Park City Council in March 2011 and is currently serving as the City's Mayor.
