My husband, Lon Clearwaters, and I moved to Rolling Hills from Hermosa Beach 28 years ago. It was a natural choice for us because we had horses, enjoyed riding and running the trails and appreciated the rural ennvironment and other special attributes of the City.
In 1994 I retired from a 28-year career as a manager at Pacific Bell/ATT. Some of my positionns included:
- Finance Manager: Resposible for development,analysis and administration of annual Expense and Capital budgets in excess of $15 million.
- Human Resources: Labor Relations & Compensation Manager.
- Project Manager: 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
- Customer Service Call Center Manager.
This varied background provided me with a breadth of knowledge and skills, including Leadership and Conflict Resolution, that I believe would serve me well as a member of City Council.
After retirement I began volunteering for various activities in the community, including:
- Rollimg Hills Women's Club - Active Board Member, holding multiple Officer positions, including 3 terms as President. Chaired many community events, including Spring Teas, Neighborhood Meetings, Children's Holiday Parties and Dog & Cat Vacination Clinics.
- Caballeros - Board of Directors, Multiple Officer Positions. Chaired numerous community events, including Pancake Breakfasts, Hix BBQs and Red Carpet Luncheons.
- City of R.H. 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee.
- R.H.C.A. 75th Anniversary Celebration Committee.
- Block Captain.
- Member of City's Emergency Operations Center.
- Member of City's year-long Resident's Focus Group. This group's purpose was to identify opportunities for improvement to City proceedures, especially in the Planning and Development process. Recommendations were forwarded to City Council for consideration, with Council acting on many of the suggestions. Changes were initiated that resulted in better outcomes for the City and individual residents.
- Currently serving on the Rolling Hills Planning Commission and Vice-Chair of its Committee on Trees and Views.
Involvement in these activities keeps me aware of the concerns and suggestions of a wide cross section of residents and opinions, not merely with immediate friends and neighbors whose opinions may be similar to my own. It has also provided me with a solid understanding of how the City and Community operate and the rules governing the different entities.
My participation in Planning Commission and Trees/View Committee issues has demonstrated that I can consider all opinions, deliberate objectively, and follow applicable rules to make finding and decisions that produce the best possible outcomes for the City. I am willing to make tough decisions and am stong enough to vote my opinion.
