It is clear that with the unemployment rate in the community being higher than in past years, our city must look at creating a strong economic program that can also embrace the existing businesses in the community.In speaking to several businesses, I asked the question if they consider our city "business friendly"? their instant answer was "absolutely "not". Many have told me that when they want to expand their business, they receive so many guidelines, and at time misinformation or not enough details as to their requirements. I want to change that. I want our small businesses to feel that our city is willing, able and ready to assist them. I want to bring back the city to provide some of their operational needs to our local businesses, such as any purchasing of items for maintenance, advertisements, printing, office supplies, etc. Those items can be purchased locally and at times, a lower rates, and at the same time stimulate the economy to out local businesses. |
