Political Philosophy for Spencer L. Karpf

It was love at first sight for me when my wife and I discovered Rolling Hills nine years ago. I love Rolling Hills as it is with its extensive riding / hiking / walking trails and the large lot, low density ranch style development that contributes so much to its rural feeling. We are surely a natural oasis surrounded by urban chaos. As your City Council member I will consider it my unwavering duty to support actions that protect and preserve the unique nature of our City. I am a problem solver. Though not yet an official member of the City Council or the RHCA Board, I played an active and important role in influencing solutions based decision making for the City Council and the RHCA. Though not widely known, I was the primary force that compelled the Community Association Board to act in accordance with the wishes of the overwhelming majority of residents in moving Rolling Hills to a Closed Gate City. I believe we have a safer, more traffic-free place to live as a result. For the past six months I have persistently lobbied both the City Council and the RHCA Board to take the threat of fire in Rolling Hills more seriously than they historically have. As a result both are finally considering approaches for dealing with the excessive fire fuel in our community with a focus on preventing a catastrophic fire while at the same time not adversely affecting our wonderful natural esthetic. I am pleased with what I've achieved for the community as its "squeaky wheel" citizen. I now propose to express my commitment to Rolling Hills as a member of the City Council. So you will know what I stand for, during this campaign I will provide you with position papers on the issues I believe are of importance to the community including: (Please click on (LINK) to read my position paper on those issues of interest to you) 1) Physical safety of the citizens; 2) Increased fire safety through the elimination of dead fire fuel throughout the City; 3) An increased focus by the City on services for those in the community who are over 50 by augmenting what the RHCA has begun to do for this group; 4) Increasing government transparency; 5) Soliciting greater community input; 6) Bringing expertize, efficiency and speed to the planning processes. |
