Sydney Kamlager is currently District Director for Senator Holly J. Mitchell (D-30). She is responsible for daily and strategic operations of the district office, including legislative and constituent initiatives, communications and programming. She has been with the Senator since 2010, where she served as a key consultant on her campaign.

She comes to her current position with close to 20 years of experience in the non-profit, entertainment and policy sectors. Prior to entering the public sector, she was Director of External Affairs for Crystal Stairs, a child care development agency, and responsible for their policy agenda, community outreach, communications and fund development. While working at Crystal Stairs, she created Community Voices, a parent advocacy group that trained parent leaders across Los Angeles and raised the visibility of child care as a critical issue for working families and local economies. Before joining Crystal Stairs, Ms. Kamlager was Legislative Director at Employer's Group (EG). While at EG, she moved the organization's education and outreach agenda, grew membership and built partnerships with national policy and business associations. Prior to EG, Ms. Kamlager was Development Director for Cieluna Co., where she forged relationships with studios and networks, and produced in-depth profiles on directors of color with Delroy Lindo. She began her professional career at the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC), a local non-profit art institution that prioritizes the work and success of new, young, emerging, women, LGBT and artists of color. As a member of their leadership team, she secured millions in city and private funding for the creation and maintenance of public art in each of the city council districts. She also was responsible for board development, personnel, fundraising, as well as the growth of its internationally renowned archive library, and exhibition calendar.

Ms. Kamlager has taught at California State University, Los Angeles. She has spoken before local, national and international audiences on education and ECE issues, economic development, the arts, environmental justice, criminal justice reform and issues that impact the daily success of working families. She graduated from the University of Southern California and Carnegie Mellon University.

Sydney Kamlager currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Unusual Suspects and is a Commissioner on the Los Angeles County Commission on Children and Families. She serves on the statewide African-American Outreach Taskforce for Covered California, the Southern Los Angeles Patient Navigation and Wellness Center Advisory Committee and is on the Steering Committee for KOREH Los Angeles, a children's literacy program at the Jewish Federation of Greater L.A.

She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta, Sorority Inc., and lives in Crenshaw Manor.
