Fixing the need for community colleges to serve as remedial institutions

By Mark Isler

Candidate for Member of the Board of Trustees; Los Angeles Community College District; Office 1

This information is provided by the candidate
Fixing the lower grades so the community colleges don't have to make up for the failures of the lower grades
We need to make sure that the community colleges do not have to be remedial institutions for the failings of the lower grades.

Too many students graduate who can't read, write, spell, or even fill out a job application. We knew what worked in the past, and it consisted of high expectations, high standards and strong discipline.

We also need to redefine public schools as schools the public chooses, be they public, charter, private,or home schooling. With competition our public schools will get better, but in any case, parents and students need to have different options so their students are not forced to stay in failing schools.
