Parking IssuesBy Gary BoyerCandidate for Council Member; City of Glendora | |

Overall Parking Enforcement has been outsourced in the City of Glendora.Parking restrictions are necessary. We don't like to get parking tickets, but the absence of parking restrictions would allow people to park overnight in unsafe areas or in areas that may impede others as they can in neighboring communities. The cost of a parking ticket is a small price to pay for keeping our streets safe and appearing the way they do. In order for streets to stay clean, we need to have restrictions so street sweepers can do their job. I believe the Police Department does a good job making parking passes available for those needing to park during restricted periods as well as identifying times when the restrictions are not enforced. However, after talking to a number of Citizens who have concerns about the way the current restrictions are enforced, I believe it's something that needs to be reviewed. The biggest concern I've heard is the aggressiveness of the company writing tickets. I did not realize all parking enforcement was now the responsibility of an outside company and not the Glendora PD. I also see nothing but continued issues regarding parking as new High Density development continues, the growth of Citrus College and the necessity of creating new business opportunities. |
