By R. Lee James

Candidate for State Representative; Pennsylvania State House of Representatives; District 64

This information is provided by the candidate
As a holder of two post-secondary degrees, husband of a teacher, father of degreed children, and trustee of a local university, I am very concerned about the quality of education we deliver to our students.
Our public school system faces numerous challenges, far advanced from the twentieth century system in which I grew up. Today we have charter, cyber, cyber-charter schools competing with conventional systems for our students. We have changing demographics, concerned (angry) property tax payers, deteriorating buildings, inadequate capital funding, bullying, teacher and/or student abuse, health care costs, drug abuse, truancy problems, rising salary and pension costs, and the list goes on. Regardless, delivering a decent education to our kids is another core function of government. As such, we must devote proper time, attention, and money to ensure we have prepared our offspring for the future of our state and nation. I will fight to provide adequate funding for our educational institutions.
