Smart Voter Full Biography for Tony Crocamo

Candidate for
State Representative; Pennsylvania State House of Representatives; District 98

This information is provided by the candidate

Christine, my wife of 42 years, and I have lived in the 98th district for more than 30 years. We chose to live here, chose to raise our two sons here. That was the right choice for our family, and an easy choice to make.

As a 19-year-old combat infantryman in Vietnam I learned the value of making the right choices when it's difficult. When you've seen men put themselves at risk for others, you revere selfless service.

It sometimes seems to voters that the primary concern of Harrisburg's career politicians is getting re-elected. And in order to get re-elected they deliberately duck the hard issues we send them to Harrisburg to solve.

Working men and women of the 98th district don't have the luxury of ducking difficult issues. We have to face them every day. During my 40 years of working for large and small businesses, I have had to change careers, struggle through mergers, recessions, layoffs--I know what it's like to work for a paycheck. I know how hard it is to try to save for your family's future while providing for your family's needs today.

If elected, I will not duck the difficult issues. I will represent you and will promote your best interests, not mine.

I am a strong advocate for:

  • Excellent cost-effective public education pre-K thru college

  • Jobs creation, jobs training, economic development

  • Maintenance and modernization of roads, highways, bridges, water and wastewater systems

  • Citizen government that represents the people

An experienced public servant, I served as a West Hempfield Township Supervisor from 2005 to 2011. I am currently a West Hempfield Zoning Board member, and the township's representative on the Lancaster Inter-Municipal Committee's Land Use Advisory Board.

For 11 years I have served as a committee person for the Hempfield Area Democratic Committee, including three years as chair. I have also served as the finance chair for the Lancaster County Democratic Committee (LCDC) for three years. LCDC named me Democrat of the Year in 2012.

I joined the US Army in 1968, was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star while with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1970.

Early in my professional life I was a newspaper reporter in northern NJ. Since 1977 I have worked in the marketing departments of engineering and architectural firms in New York, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. I am the former Corporate Marketing Manager for Buchart Horn, Inc., an international engineering and architectural firm headquartered in York, PA.

I earned an associate degree in Journalism from the University of New Haven, West Haven, CT, and a bachelors degree in Business Communications from St. Elizabeth's College, Convent Station, NJ.
