Beliefs on how to govern

Solutions to California's issues.
You've heard it said, "As California goes, so goes the nation." If this is true, then we are rapidly headed toward utter catastrophe. What was once the prosperous Golden State, full of opportunity and innovation, has now become a stifling web of lackluster taxation and regulation where cities such as Los Angeles have seen negative job growth for twenty-three years. With businesses fleeing and unemployment skyrocketing, we all know people and families who are struggling to make ends meet.

It is a daunting tale unfolding before our very eyes with California having the highest poverty rate, highest income inequality, greatest number of people on government assistance, and greatest infrastructure deficit in the United States.

This November, Californians have an opportunity to exercise their rights and vote a new wave of leaders into the State Assembly. With your help, I will be among them. My goals are to increase good-paying jobs; strengthen the economy; and innovate and localize education + but our state faces overwhelming challenges:

  • California has lost 73,000 businesses since 2010, an astonishing 64,000 more than the next-highest state on the list. Just this September, Tesla announced that it is building its new $6 billion plant in Nevada, and taking the 6,500 jobs and $332 million in annual wages with it. Toyota, Occidental, Nestle, and so many others have already headed east. California has become a bad business decision for most companies, and we need to reassess our tax and regulatory environment using economics, not partisanship.

  • California has the highest LLC business tax in the nation, yet small businesses of 50 or fewer employees account for 80% of jobs. I want to slash the current $800 annual fee to $10 so that more capital can be used to promote businesses themselves.

  • California has the highest overall tax burden of any state in the nation. I want to cut taxes by 10% for every taxpayer in this state, and ensure that every person, no matter his or her income level, pays something, no matter how small, into the system.

  • California spends a higher percentage of its budget on education than any other state in the nation, yet we are all but last in terms of our education system. I want to put a freeze on administrator salaries until we can agree on a way to put the tax dollars right where they belong + in our classrooms with our kids, preparing them for a bright future.

Success is contagious, and we all aspire to experience at least a little of it. So we need to celebrate the businesses, entrepreneurs and innovators in this great state. It's because of them that ideas flourish and people reach their greatest potential.

Please join me in this opportunity to make California the prosperous, Golden State again. With your support - financial, personal promotion, and at the polls- we can move one step forward with the answers for California.

Earnestly, Todd Royal Candidate for the 43rd State Assembly District
