About Conrad Melton

Conrad Melton's first political job was for Hubert Humphrey's Presidential Campaign in 1968. The next year he ran for a position on the Simi Valley School District Board of Directors.

For 25 years, Conrad was a firefighter + and subsequently a Fire Inspector + for the City of Los Angeles. He was the principal architect of the Department's Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Program and he also created and directed the Stress Management Program for the Santa Monica Fire Department in 1988-1990.

He actively served on the executive board of the LAFD's union, United Firefighters of Los Angeles City, Local 112, for 15 years, holding various offices and serving on the negotiating team as a lobbyist and as the Chief Election Judge for the Western States Firefighters Association.

In 1978, he co-led a successful national effort to secure a Joint Congressional Resolution of Tribute honoring firefighters who had been killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty.

Conrad and his wife, Judai, moved to Sun City in 1995 where he became an avid lawn bowler. He became an Umpire of the sport in 1999, California's Head Umpire in 2005, and then served as U.S. National Umpire-in-Chief from 2007-2012, doubling up in 2011-2012 by also serving as President of the Southwest Lawn Bowls Association.

Conrad was appointed by Supervisor Jeff Stone to the Menifee Municipal Advisory Council where he served as its Chief Presiding Officer from 2005-2007. He also was an active member of the Perris Union High School District's Citizen Advisory Committee and was named Kay Ceniceros Senior Center Volunteer of the Year in 2009.

In 2012, while serving as the Vice President of the Menifee-Perris Valley Democratic Club + he would become its President in 2013 + Conrad was elected to the Riverside County Democratic Central Committee representing Assembly District 67. In 2014 he became the District's Vice Chair.

Conrad received his Bachelors and Master's Degrees from California State University-Northridge and has a Lifetime Teaching Credential.

He and his wife, Judai, have four children and four grandchildren.
