Government By the Majority

By Keith Rhinehart

Candidate for Council Member; City of Santa Rosa

This information is provided by the candidate
These are the things I will try to accomplish or fix should you elect me to City Council.
PENSIONS: Many candidates like to espouse that "a promise is a promise" regard to our unfunded Pension problem. They seem reluctant to consider legal options or new legislation to improve our City's financial popsition. I am not one of these I will implement new past-pension negotiations to roll back our pension obligations when the pension is greater than 75%. I will not shy away from legal threats from employee groups, especially the remaining "3% at 30" professional groups, I will not go after our lowest-paid workers, like our current Council has been doing during negotiations this year.

PUBLIC TRANSIT: Our aging population needs a more robust and frequent public transit system. Regardless of the desires of some of the other candidates, My Generation will be relying on Public Transit to get me around town to visit friends, relatives or the doctor when I am too old or poor to drive myself. We should aim for reduced Greenhouse gases in this endeavor. More monies for the greatest number of our Citizens, not the less than one percent of who walk or bicycle to work.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING: It's pretty hard to build affordable housing when it costs nearly $60,000 just to break ground. I will lead the Council towards revising and streamlining both the process AND reducing the costs of expanding, relocating or building in Santa Rosa.

PUBLIC SAFETY: As a basic Neighborhood Safety item, we need the lights turned back on in ALL our neighborhoods. We also need to staff our Fire engines (pumpers) and trucks (ladders) by one more employee and find a regular salary for our Emergency Services Disaster Coordinator.
