By Eric Kirchmann

Candidate for Board Member; West Sonoma County Union High School District

In the words of a District Office Employee "Things are a shambles, people left their positions suddenly, and we are doing our best to fill in."
I spend public funds as if they were my own. Saying it is "Parcel Tax" or "Bond Money" does not mean it is free money. Trustee means you have the public trust to manage the school District with public funds.

At present there are two positions filled to handle maintenance duties for WSCUHSD. What justifies this dual funding?

Windows were put in the front of Analy High School at a cost of over a half million dollars then many of these same new windows were removed to allow for venting for HVAC distribution. The jobs need to be done right the first time not done over and over at added cost.

During my twenty years as a trustee of CRPUSD I was known for my fiscal responsibility and telling project managers "No change orders". My meeting agendas were always noted with notes that read "Cost? Funding source? Need?" You need to look at the short term and the long term good of all projects and expenditures. You do not just build, you must maintain; and all the pieces need to fit together. You need to deal with present needs, but also project into the future in all aspects of management and maintenance.

WSCUHSD Community Day School has two students and a full time teacher. The Students do not always attend and the teacher has not been in the classroom in August or September. This formula simply does not add up.

At present there is no named Finance Director, no CFO. Two COOs. One CEO. This for a District of under 2,000 students. Other Districts have single High Schools with larger populations. There is a call for needs assessment and economy of scale. Parcel taxes and bonds have been passed but those funds should not be spent without restraint or proper oversight. I have twenty years of experience as an elected School Board Trustee.
