Ravenswood City School District + Progress Report

Common Core/Academic Improvements
  • RCSD is in the second year of full implementation of the Common Core Standards in English and Math. Teachers have made the transition to designing curriculum maps/lessons/assessments according to Common Core using a balanced literacy framework
  • The district has partnered with the New Teacher Center to provide training and coaching for all teachers.
  • 6th -8th grade teachers have been trained in AVID strategies to use in their content areas to promote student success in high school
  • Our Science, Technology, Engineering and Math program won an award from the Silicon Valley Education Foundation on October 1, 2014 for our Innovative Makerspace program.
  • RCSD students participated for the first time in the county Science Fair, and placed in the top 3!!
  • Established a music program to prepare our students for the high school band program. Over 120 instruments, including a piano, have been purchased.
  • Created an electives program for 6th-8th grade students to improve their learning experience. Music, art, lab science, Makerspace, and sports are now part of the curriculum. Suspensions
  • Suspensions have been reduced by almost 50% in the past year.

Funding/Resources
  • Over $5 million dollars in additional support from corporate funders and non-profits was donated to support student achievement, teacher training, and supplies and materials for classrooms.
  • Community partners and organizations increased their support by providing school uniforms, shoes, backpacks, books, computers, and other school supplies.
  • Over 3000 families will be served this year through Second Harvest and the Produce Mobile with groceries, vegetables, and fruit.
  • Upgraded the quality of the school nutrition program. Staff Benefits/Improved the Financial Picture for all Stakeholders
  • Removed the four furlough days, increasing the base pay.
  • Approved across the board wage increase of 7%. Staff had not had a pay increase in 7 years.
  • Improved benefits options, reducing health contribution from employees by almost 50%.
  • Provided teachers with collaboration time every week.
  • Provided high quality professional development for all departments
