I Believe in the Values of Fairness and Equal Opportunity

As discussed in the 2014 Grand Jury Report (please see opinion paper), the San Mateo County Harbor District currently does not satisfactorily serve the citizens of San Mateo County. The harbor communities and the taxpayers deserve more consideration, attention, and fair treatment. Following the status quo or business-as-usual approaches will not work. A fresh approach and independent thinking is required.

With diplomacy, respect, and a collaborative approach the Harbor District can be brought back on track financially and in terms of the service that is provided to the public. I know that people working together can accomplish great things. I am committed to strengthening the economic vitality of the District by supporting local family businesses. Additionally, I am committed to working hard to rebuild the trust that the public has lost in the District.

My experience in successfully building partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders and other agencies, managing complex projects and budgets, and managing a diverse group of people makes me a competent candidate for Harbor Commissioner. In my day job I am building partnerships with the purpose of collecting data and communicating information about water quality in San Francisco Bay and tributaries to the Bay and the Ocean in support of management decisions. On the Harbor Commission I would use these communication and planning skills to promote thriving and successful Harbors with clean water and safe beaches.

I believe in reducing our ecological footprint. I support smart land use and public transportation, and would like to promote the ferry service at Oyster Point Marina and help make it successful. I support a multi-agency partnership to provide shuttle service from the Oyster Point Ferry Terminal to local bus stops, the South San Francisco Caltrain Station, and the San Bruno BART Station. We have to do all we can to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

I believe that we are facing many environmental challenges that require good governance and local, state, and federal agencies that work with communities to reduce air and water pollution and protect citizens from environmental toxicants. I support investment in renewable energy sources, high caliber medical and research institutions, quality education, affordable health care, a clean environment, a strong economy, and good jobs.

I hope you will give me a chance to make the Harbor District work better for San Mateo County. I would be honored to have your vote.

Thank you!
