Candidate Statement
My name is Ray Buenaventura and I am running for re-election to the Daly City Council.

As your public servant, I have strived to make good decisions to make your lives better.  Whether its issues concerning the budget, legislation, public safety, libraries, park and recreation, or street maintenance, I have worked hard at arriving at solutions that make government work for you.

I believe in an open and honest government. I started the first electronic newsletter to keep people informed.  I also initiated "People's Day," which allowed for drop in meetings with councilmembers.

We introduced "DalyCityIhelp," an app that allows for instant reporting of problems, from crimes, pot holes, garbage, or graffiti, etc.. I led the creation of the Arts & Culture Commission and called for Daly City's involvement in SFO Commission to address airplane noise pollution over Daly City.  I supported environmentally friendly legislation such as banning plastic bags and second-hand smoke.  I led the fight for District Elections and fought any attempts to divide Daly City.  I have been fiscally responsible and as a result Daly City's budget is balanced. I've made cuts and consolidated services.  I voted for revenue generating projects but also for more affordable housing in Daly City.

As your Public Servant I have:

Balanced the Budget Acted Fiscally Responsible Made Public Safety a Priority Fought for District Elections (Supervisors) Advocated against Airplane Noise Pollution Worked to Save Daly City Dolphins Fought against Cell Towers Saved Westlake Coffee Shop Banned Plastic Bags & Styrofoam Introduced "The People's Day" Published Councilmember Newsletter Created Arts & Culture Commission Helped bring the Bayshore Shuttle Obtained more funding for Libraries 100% Voting Record (no abstensions) Called for Start of Composting Voted for more Affordable Housing Supporter of Robertson school, Boys & Girls Club

My work is not done.  There is much more we can do to improve upon Daly City's future.  We need to continue to act vigilantly in generating revenue and finding ways to make government more efficient. We also need to address parking, re-development, affordable housing, public safety, capital improvements, public works, library & recreation services.

I want to make sure our city continues to be strong and prosperous.  I want to continue working for you and would be humbled to have your vote on November 4.
