My Commitments to the Residents of Scotts Valley

By Russ Patterson

Candidate for Council Member; City of Scotts Valley

This information is provided by the candidate
My Commitments are:
To accentuate the "Innovative Spirit" of Scotts Valley that was created in the 1980s by businesses that made the city internationally known.

  • Let's bring in more innovative companies to add to our recent additions of Zero Motorcycles, BRG Sports, Bay Photo, Fox Racing, and Universal Audio.

To encourage the people from our successful businesses to become an active part of our community.

  • Through participation, their children can attend our excellent schools, they can become members of our local community organizations, and they can experience the special "hometown feel" that keeps us living in Scotts Valley.

To not rely on long-term special tax measures.

  • Based on my time spent on the Planning Commission, I will focus on well-planned development, both business and residential, with the aim of improving the city's Sales Tax base.

To use "Measure U" funding on what it was intended for.

  • Ensure that Measure U funding continues to provide outstanding city services to our residents while taking care of our two most important commodities, our city employees and our city infrastructure.

To be a VISIBLE council member.

  • You will see me at local community events and you will get to know me.

To continue moving forward on the Town Center.

  • While attending the most recent public meetings at the Community Center, I have seen overwhelming support for the project.

To support all our valued businesses in the Community.

  • Even though the Town Center is important, so is the development of other new retail businesses and the retention of established businesses along both Scotts Valley Drive and the other shopping centers in the city.

To improve and speed up the City's planning and permitting processes.

  • I would support City staff working toward online permit applications and the scheduling of building inspections.

To sign an agreement with Pasatiempo to purchase recycled water from the City's wastewater treatment plant for use on the golf course.

  • This proposal will accomplish two things: It will save precious groundwater already being used for irrigation, and will act as an additional source of revenue for the city.
